(INDIANAPOLIS) – The HealthNet Homeless Initiative Program (HIP) was pleased to receive a $50,000 grant this month from the Indianapolis Foundation, a CICF Affiliate.
The grant award will be used to continue a flexible fund begun in 2022 as a part of HIP’s Community Catalyst Collaborative. HIP has partnered with the Indiana Family Social Services Administration over the past 1 ½ years to pilot housing problem-solving conversations with over 400 Central Indiana families facing a housing crisis as part of a larger effort across Marion County to prevent homelessness. Eighty-four percent of participants who completed a housing problem-solving assessment have remained housed a year later.
“We are so grateful for this support,” said HIP Director Kay Wiles. “Funds from this grant award will be used to divert households as quickly as possible from housing instability with cost-effective, participant-centered solutions to spare the additional trauma experienced with literal homelessness that interrupts each individual’s ability to thrive,” added Diversion Program Manager Melissa Bell.
